Samhain - A Night To Remember
Samhain, the ancient Celtic festival marking summer’s end and the turning toward the darker half of the year, falls on the same night we celebrate Halloween. As my kids have grown and trick-or-treating has faded into memory, this night has taken on a quieter, more meaningful rhythm for me.
It’s said that during Samhain, the veil between our world and the spirit realm grows thin, allowing our loved ones in spirit to draw close, to be remembered.
For many of us, this is a sacred night of remembrance, a time to honor our ancestors, loved ones, and all souls who’ve walked before us. Through prayer, meditation, or gentle reflection, we’re reminded that our love and connection never end.
Each year, I handcraft soy tealights and hand-rolled beeswax candles, infused with oils and herbs, especially for October 31st. Lighting one has become a personal ritual, a simple yet powerful act of remembering those who have crossed into the spirit world.
This Samhain, I invite you to join me. Light a candle, or several, in honor of those you hold dear in spirit. I’ll be placing mine beside a few cherished photos and a few small keepsakes. As I light each flame, I take a quiet walk down memory lane, pausing to see what feelings or memories rise, then move on to the next, until all are glowing.
Let the candlelight remind you that love and connection are eternal, that those we miss walk beside us still. Tonight, we set aside sacred time just for them. I would love to hear from you if you light your remembrance candles this year.
Wishing you a beautiful and blessed Samhain,
Kathy 🕯️✨
